한 얼 One soul

한 얼 One soul 한 얼, 15살에 스스로 지은 이름이다. 얼굴, 얼빠지다 에서처럼 얼은 사람으로 사람 되게 하는 정신 혼 영으로 한 정신 뜻을 품고 살자는 것이다. 독일어로 Ein Geist를 아인스타인에 맞추어 Geistein 으로 하고 한 얼 Geistein도장을 책마다 찍었다. 한 마음과 소원을 가지고 그것을 향하여 달리겠다는 의지였다. 얼은 얼빠지다,넋을 잃다, 혼나다 에서 보듯 삶의 본질 생명이라 한 얼은 하나님이 주신 생명, 하나 뿐인 큰 생명이라 이는 바로 나 자신이었다. 비록 내 세울 것 없는 산골출신이나 하나님이 한 얼을 주사 생명으로 나게 하셨으니 나는 그에게 참으로 귀한 존재임을 알고 나도 나를 인정하여 언제나 어디서나 감사와 자신감을 가지고 힘차게 나아가는 기개를 가졌다. 또한 내가 나를 소중하게 생각하듯이 다른 사람을 귀하게 생각하는 마음이 들어왔다. 그의 외모 출신배경 학력 지위 소유가 어떠하든지 그의 한 얼을 보며 존귀하게 여기는 마음이 있었다. 얼은 혼이라 한 얼을 One Soul로 쓰고 이는 성경에서 사람이 온 천하를 얻고도 자기 목숨을 잃으면 무엇이 유익하리요 (막8:36) 말씀을 근거로 One Soul Ministry를 만들고 선교사로 에티오피아 의과대학 설립에 동참하고 교수 교목으로 ‘섬김을 받고자 함이 아니라 섬기는 자로’ (Not to be served but to serve) 교훈을 만들고 가난하고 어려운 자들을 예수의 제자로 삼고자 훈련하고 양육하여 이들이 그리스도의 사랑으로 사람을 사랑하고 섬기도록 하였다. 이들이 졸업하고 ‘한 생명’을 사랑으로 섬기는 의료 사역을 한다는 소식을 들으며 주를 찬양하고 감사한다. Han Eol – One Soul Han Eol is the name I gave myself at the age of fifteen. The word “Eol” (얼), found in words like eolgul (face) and eolppajida (to lose spirit), refers to the spirit, soul, or essence that makes a person truly human. With that meaning in mind, I chose to live embracing the idea of one spirit. In German, I coined the word Geistein—inspired by “Einstein” and derived from Ein Geist (One Spirit). I stamped “Han Eol Geistein” in every book I owned. It expressed my will to live with a unified heart and purpose, striving always toward that goal. Just as in the expressions eolppajida (to lose one’s spirit), neok-eul iltda (to lose one’s soul), and hon-nada (to be struck speechless), Eol represents the essence of life itself. Han Eol signifies the great, singular life given by God—it is none other than myself. Though I come from a humble mountain village and have nothing special to boast about, I have come to understand that I am a precious being because God gave me Han Eol as life. Realizing this, I chose to acknowledge and affirm myself, carrying a spirit of gratitude and confidence wherever I go. As I learned to value myself, a heart to treasure others also grew in me. Regardless of a person’s appearance, background, education, status, or possessions, I came to see their Han Eol—their soul—and treat them with dignity. Because Eol means “soul,” I translated Han Eol as One Soul. Based on the Bible verse, “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” (Mark 8:36), I founded the One Soul Ministry. As a missionary, I joined the effort to establish a medical school in Ethiopia, serving as a professor and chaplain. Inspired by Jesus’ words—“Not to be served but to serve”—we trained and nurtured students not to seek honor but to become Jesus’ disciples who love and serve the poor and needy with the love of Christ. Hearing that these graduates are now practicing medical ministry by serving one life with love, I give praise and thanks to the Lord.
