너는 내 것이라 You are Mine 어느 동리에서 아이들이 집 앞 길에서 공놀이를 하다가 공이 이웃 정원으로 들어가자 아이들은 공을 따라 그 정원으로 들어갔다. 매우 자연스런 일이라 생각되지만 주인은 자기 정원에 들어오지 말라고 야단한다. 아이들은 계속하여 놀며 다시 공이 그 정원으로 들어가자 한 아이가 공을 가지러 정원에 들어갔다. 그것을 보던 노인은 총을 가지고 나와 아이들을 향하여 발포하였다. 자기 재산 보호 권리를 너무 지나치게 사용한 것이다. 국가도 개인도 자기의 것을 지키고자 분쟁과 살상이 일어난다. 우리 이민의 동기는 잘 살아보자는 것이지만 자녀 교육이 큰 동력이었다. 이를 위하여 밤낮 없이 일을 하고 학군이 좋은 곳으로 이사하고 좋은 대학에 진학시키고자 최선을 다하고 원하는 결과를 얻기도 하였다. 자기 자식 자기 소유를 위한 마음이다. 하나님은 이사야 43장에서 우리를 자기 것이라 하신다. 우리를 창조하고 짓고 속량하고 이름 불러 택하였기에 ‘너는 내 것이라’ 하신다. 스스로 태어나거나 부모가 원한다고 내가 생긴 것이 아니다. 하나님이 나를 태속에서 지었다고 시인은 고백한다. 죄에 매여 죽음에 처한 우리를 다시 살리고자 하나님은 아들 예수님을 보내어 생명으로 값을 치르고 우리를 속량하였고 이름 불러 택하여 주의 것으로 삼으셨다. 나를 위하여 아들을 아끼지 않으신 아버지가 무엇을 아끼겠는가! 우리가 주의 것이면 주께서 우리를 책임지고 인도하며 보호하신다. 물을 지나고 불을 통과하게 하시고 광야에 길을 내고 사막에 강이 흐르게 하며 만나와 메추라기를 주시어 살도록 하시고 강한 원수에게서 보호하신다. 이는 우리가 경험으로 아는 것이다. 우리가 할 수 있는 일은 하나님을 인정하고 높이며 찬양하는 것이다. 이들은 나를 위하여 지었나니 나를 찬양하는 것이라 하신 주의 소원을 이루심인다. 그리고 그를 섬긴다. 교회에서 세상에서 봉헌하고 봉사한다. 나를 낳고 길러 주신 부모님을 인정하고 감사하며 섬기는 것이 그들을 기쁘고 만족하게 한다. 나아가 이를 알리고 전하며 전도하고 선교하며 주의 사랑과 생명을 나누고 자선하며 주의 이름을 알리고 높인다. 베드로는 우리를 향하여 그의 소유된 백성이라 한다. 이스라엘만 아니라 오늘 예수를 통하여 속량함을 받은 우리를 향하여 너는 내 것이라 하신다. 그렇다. 나는 주의 것 주의 소유라 고백하고 감사하며 매일을 기쁘게 살려고 노력한다. You Are Mine In a certain neighborhood, children were playing ball in the road in front of their houses. When the ball went into a neighbor’s garden, the children naturally followed it into the garden. Thinking this was unacceptable, the owner scolded them and told them not to enter his property. The children continued playing, and when the ball again went into the garden, one child entered to retrieve it. Seeing this, an elderly man came out with a gun and fired toward the children. He had exercised his right to protect his property in an excessively extreme way. Whether on a national or personal level, conflicts and bloodshed arise from the desire to protect what one claims as one’s own. The motive for our immigration was to live better, but a major driving force was our children’s education. For this purpose, we worked day and night, moved to districts with good school systems, and did our best to send our children to good universities, often achieving the results we desired. This, too, came from a sense of ownership—protecting and advancing what is ours, our own children. In Isaiah chapter 43, God declares that we are His own. Because He created us, formed us, redeemed us, and called us by name and chose us, He says, “You are Mine.” I did not come into being by my own will, nor simply because my parents wanted me. The psalmist confesses that God formed me in my mother’s womb. To give life again to us who were bound by sin and facing death, God sent His Son Jesus, paid the price with His life, redeemed us, called us by name, and made us His own. If the Father did not spare His own Son for me, what would He withhold? If we belong to the Lord, He takes responsibility for us—guiding, protecting, and caring for us. He leads us through waters and through fire, makes a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, provides manna and quail so that we may live, and protects us from powerful enemies. This is something we know from experience. What we can do, then, is to acknowledge God, exalt Him, and praise Him. The Lord says, “These are the people I formed for Myself, that they may declare My praise,” and thus His desire is fulfilled. We also serve Him—offering and serving in the church and in the world. Acknowledging, thanking, and serving our parents who gave us life and raised us brings them joy and satisfaction. Furthermore, we proclaim and share this truth through evangelism and missions, sharing the Lord’s love and life, practicing charity, and making His name known and exalted. Peter calls us “a people belonging to God.” Not only Israel, but we who have been redeemed through Jesus today also hear Him say, “You are Mine.” Yes, I confess with gratitude that I am the Lord’s—His possession—and I strive to live each day joyfully.
