끝까지 잘 달리자 Run Well to the End

끝까지 잘 달리자 내가 잘 아는 장로는 유명한 의과대학 교수로 귀 내부 증긴 부분에서 세계 4대 권위자의 하나라 불릴 정도로 인정받았다. 그는 아프리카에서 사역한 슈바이처를 매우 좋아하여 섬기는 일을 잘하였다. 그는 또한 사람들을 잘 웃게 하는 농담 재능이 뛰어나 농학대학 학장이라고도 하였다. 학계나 교회나 지역사회에서 존경받던 그가 어떤 사유로 학교를 그만두게 되었다. 그가 평소에 다니던 길을 알면서도 반대방향으로 들어가 달리다가 경찰에 잡히고 현장에서 운전면허증을 뺏겼다. 그는 낙망하고 그의 삶은 비참하게 되었다. 어떻게 이런 일이 일어난 것인가? 전직으로 알고 좋아하던 일을 그만 두면서 그것이 스트레스가 되고 바른 정신에 혼란을 가져 온 것이다. 그동안 잘 달리던 삶과 길에 혼동이 일어나 제대로 분간을 하지 못하였던 것이다. 이런 일은 누구에나 있는 일어난다. 신앙 생활도 먀챤갸지다. 바울이 갈라디아 교인들을 잘 달리는 성도라고 인정하고 칭찬하면서 그들이 흔들리는 것을 본다. 적은 누룩이 온 덩이에 퍼지는 것을 경고한다 이는. 진리를 떠난 어떤 이들이 그들을 접근한 것이다. 적은 잘못된 교리가 번지며 자리잡아 이단에 이르고 진리를 거스리며 이를 신봉하게 된다. 처음은 잘 시작하였으나 자기 생각을 고집하고 자기 중심이 되어 자기를 높이고자 하는 것이다. 진리의 믿음에 만족하지 못하고 무엇인가 첨가하거나 빼고자 한다. 진리를 바르게 이해하지 못하고 판단하기도 한다. 진리를 바로 알고 받아 확고하게 서 있으면 어떤 바람이 불어도 흔들리지 않을 것이다. 하나님은 어제나 오늘이나 영원토록 동일하시다. 그의 말씀은 살아 있고 운동력이 있어 우리 마음과 생각, 관절과 골수를 찔러 쪼개듯 모든 것을 살피고 아신다. 하나님의 말씀 진리 안에 있으면 흔들리지 않는다. 구주 예수와 그 말씀에 우리의 삶과 집을 세우면 반석위에 집을 지은 것 같아 비가 내리고 창수가 일어나도 흔들리지 않고 무너지지 않은다. 어떤 다른 이론이나 시험 환난 핍박이 와도 든든히 이겨내는 것을 역사가 보여준다. 성도와 교회가 할 일은 진리를 바로 알아 자기를 세우고 자녀와 교인들을 든든한 하나님 말씀 위에 세우는 일이다. 이 일을 위하여 달리고 힘쓸 것이 우리의 일이요 사명이다. 주여 우리를 긍휼히 여기사 지혜와 힘을 더 하시어 주의 말씀을 가슴에 담고 묵상하며 매일을 달려가게 하소서 기도한다. Run Well to the End Let us run well to the end. An elder I know well was a renowned medical school professor, recognized as one of the world’s four leading authorities in the field of inner-ear pathology. He greatly admired Albert Schweitzer, who served in Africa, and likewise devoted himself to serving others. He also had an extraordinary gift for humor, often making people laugh, and was even jokingly called the “Dean of Agronomy.” He was respected in academia, in the church, and in the community. However, for certain reasons he left the university. Although he knew the road he usually took, he drove in the opposite direction, was stopped by the police, and had his driver’s license taken on the spot. He fell into deep discouragement, and his life became miserable. How could such a thing have happened? Leaving the work he loved and had done all his life brought him great stress, and that stress disturbed his clarity of mind. Confusion entered the life and path he had run so well, and he could no longer distinguish things properly. Such things can happen to anyone. The same is true of the life of faith. Paul praised the Galatian believers for running well, yet he saw that they were being shaken. He warned them that a little leaven leavens the whole lump. Some who had departed from the truth had approached them. A small error in doctrine spreads, takes root, and becomes heresy. It opposes the truth, and people come to believe in it. Though they began well, they hold stubbornly to their own thoughts, become self-centered, and seek to exalt themselves. They become dissatisfied with the faith of truth and try to add or subtract something. They fail to rightly understand and judge the truth. But if we stand firmly by rightly understanding and receiving the truth, no wind can shake us. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His Word is living and active; it pierces our hearts, thoughts, joints, and marrow, and discerns all things. If we remain in the truth of God’s Word, we will not be shaken. When we build our lives and our house upon the Savior Jesus and His Word, it is like building upon the rock—when the rains fall and the floods rise, the house will neither shake nor collapse. History shows that no theory, trial, tribulation, or persecution can overcome those who stand firm. The calling of believers and of the Church is to know the truth rightly, to build ourselves up, and to establish our children and our congregation upon the firm foundation of God’s Word. This is our task and our mission, for which we must run and labor. Lord, have mercy on us. Grant us wisdom and strength, and help us to store Your Word in our hearts, meditate on it, and run each day faithfully. Amen. test
