삶의 첫 단추 The First Button of Life 옷을 입을 때 첫 단추를 잘 끼워야 한다. 그것이 잘못 되면 단추를 모두 끼어도 옷은 제대로 입은 것이 아니다. 우리 삶의 첫 단추는 무엇인가? 우리에게 3강5륜이라는 것이 있다. 왕과 신하, 아버지와 아들, 남편과 아내에서 전자가 지도권을 가지는 것이요 그 관계는 군신유의 부자유친 부부유별 장유유서 붕우유신으로 왕과 신하, 아버지와 아들, 남편과 아내. 노인과 젊은이, 친구와 친구 사이에는 공의, 친근, 구별, 순서, 신의가 있어야 한다는 것이다. 평화와 질서를 유지하며 사는데 요구되는 것이다. 보이는 인간관계는 말하지만 보이지 않지만 영원한 통치자 하나님은 전혀 고려가 없다. 성경은 우리에게 이 영역을 보여준다. 레위기는 우리가 성경을 읽을 때 흥미가 업고 지루할 정도라 지나갈 때가 있지만 유대인은 자녀들에게 그것을 제일 먼저 가르칠 정도로 삶의 첫 단추로 생각하고 있다. 세상 왕이나 누구보다 여호와 하나님께서 우주와 우리 삶의 첫 단추로 하나님과의 관계가 모든 인간관계에 앞선다는 것을 보여준다. 하나님은 그들의 하나님이요 그들은 하나님의 백성으로 하나님이 그들 가운데 장막을 치고 그들과 함께 하시고 그들은 하나님을 인정하고 평안하게 그를 모시고 함께 사는 것이다. 어떻게 이런 관계를 형성하며 어떤 일이 일어나는가를 레위기 26장은 말한다. 하나님과의 관계를 보여주는 것이 성막이다. 이스라엘 백성이 이집트 종생활에서 해방되어 자유인으로 약속의 땅을 향하여 행진할 때 하나님이 그들과 함께 하신다는 표시로 성막을 세우게 하였다. 성막은 하나님이 계신 집으로 하나님이 어떤 장소에 국한되지 않은 분이나 천지에 충만한 그분이 그들과 함께 하신다는 가시적 상징으로 성막을 만들고 모세가 받은 하나님의 계명 돌 판을 그곳에 두고 레위인 제사장이 책임을 맡았다. 그들은 하나님의 백성이요 하나님은 그들의 하나님인 것을 확인한다. 이런 관계를 증명하기 위하여 이스라엘은 하나님의 율례와 계명을 지키며 따르고 하나님은 그들을 책임지고 축복허신다. 하나님의 규례와 계명은 사람을 얽어 매는 굴레가 아니라 그들을 안전하고 평화롭게 살기 위한 것이기에 무거운 짐이 아니라 생명과 즐거움이 된다. 우리가 건강한 삶을 위하여 작당한 운동을 하고 그 효과를 보면 운동은 즐거운 일이다. 하나님은 자기 백성을 사랑하시고 축복하신다. 천지와 만물을 다스리기에 농사 시대에 비와 햇빛을 적당하게 주시어 양식이 풍성하여 부족함이 없게 하신다. 그들의 안전을 위협하는 모든 요소인 짐승과 원수를 제어하며 멀리하게 하신다. 설령 원수가 침범하여도 다섯이 백을, 백이 만을 물리치게 하여 하나님이 함께 한 그들의 힘이 얼마나 큰지 믿게 한다. 다른 사람들은 하나님이 그들과 함께 하시기에 그들을 당할 수 없다는 것을 알고 물러간다. 이것이 하나님의 백성 이스라엘의 현실이다, 오늘 예수님을 왕으로 믿는 나는 어떠한가? 나는 부족하지만 어린 때부터 나를 사랑하여 이름 부르고 찾아 말씀하시고 나의 길을 인도하고 정리하며 필요한 것을 채워 주셨다. 내가 할 수 있는 일은 감사하며 따르는 것이다. 예정에 없던 이민목회를 하며 다수의 교회를 섬겼으나 한번도 내가 원하여 택한 곳이 없다. 주께서 인도하고 보내시는 대로 순종하는 것 뿐이었다. 앞으로의 삶의 여정도 걱정이나 두려워할 것 없이 주의 음성과 인도하심을 보고 따르는 것 뿐이다. 내 삶의 첫 단추는 나의 주 나의 왕 하나님의 음성에 귀를 기울이며 십자가를 지고 그를 따르는 것이다. 많은 제한과 약함이 있지만 기뻐하고 감사하며 주를 높이며 살기를 소망한다. The First Button of Life When putting on clothes, the first button must be fastened correctly. If it is wrong, even if all the other buttons are fastened, the clothing is not worn properly. What, then, is the first button of our lives? We have what is called the “Three Bonds and Five Relationships.” In the relationships between ruler and subject, father and son, and husband and wife, the former holds authority. These relationships—ruler and subject, father and son, husband and wife, elder and younger, and friend and friend—are to be governed by righteousness, affection, distinction, order, and trust. These are necessary for maintaining peace and order in life. While these visible human relationships are emphasized, the invisible yet eternal ruler, God, is often not considered at all. The Bible shows us this missing dimension. Leviticus may seem uninteresting and tedious when we read the Bible, so it is often passed over. Yet the Jewish people consider it the very first lesson for their children—the first button of life. It teaches that above any earthly king or authority, the LORD God is the first and foremost in the universe and in our lives, and that our relationship with God precedes all human relationships. God is their God, and they are His people. He dwells among them, pitching His tabernacle in their midst. They acknowledge Him, serve Him, and live in peace with Him. Leviticus chapter 26 explains how such a relationship is formed and what happens as a result. The tabernacle represents this relationship with God. When the Israelites were freed from slavery in Egypt and marched as free people toward the Promised Land, God commanded them to build the tabernacle as a sign that He was with them. Though God is not confined to any one place and fills heaven and earth, the tabernacle was a visible symbol of His presence among them. Inside it were placed the stone tablets of God’s commandments given to Moses, and the Levite priests were entrusted with its care. This affirmed that they were God’s people and that God was their God. To demonstrate this relationship, Israel kept and followed God’s statutes and commandments, and God took responsibility for them and blessed them. His laws were not chains to bind people, but a way for them to live safely and peacefully. Therefore, they were not a burden but became life and joy. Just as exercise, though requiring effort, becomes enjoyable when we see its benefits for a healthy life, so it is with God’s commands. God loves and blesses His people. As the ruler of heaven and earth, He provides proper rain and sunlight, ensuring abundant harvests so they lack nothing. He removes threats such as wild animals and enemies. Even if enemies attack, five will chase a hundred, and a hundred will chase ten thousand, showing how great their strength is with God among them. Others, seeing that God is with them, retreat in fear. This was the reality of Israel as God’s people. What about me today, as one who believes in Jesus as King? Though I am lacking, from my childhood God has loved me, called me by name, sought me out, spoken to me, guided my path, set things in order, and provided what I need. What I can do is simply give thanks and follow Him. Though I did not plan it, I have served many churches in immigrant ministry, yet never once did I choose where I would go. I only obeyed as the Lord led and sent me. As for the journey ahead, there is no need for worry or fear—only to listen to His voice and follow His guidance. The first button of my life is to listen to the voice of my Lord and King, to take up the cross, and to follow Him. Though I have many limitations and weaknesses, I hope to live with joy and gratitude, exalting the Lord.
