손님을 영접하여Inviting a Guest 집에 손님을 초청하면 어떻게 하는가 함이 마라다 마리아 자매가 예수님을 초청한데서 볼 수 있다. 왜 초청하였을까? 가까이 교제하고 접대하기 위함이다. 마르다는 부엌에서 접대 준비에 분주한데 마리아는 예수님 앞에 앉아 있다. 마르다는 선생님 마리아에게 나를 도와 주라 하소서 한다. 주님은 그 에게 네가 많은 것으로 염려하나 몇 가지든지 혹 한 가지만이라도 족하다. 마리아는 좋은 것을 선택하였으니 빼앗기지 않으리라 하신다. 주님은 한 가지 일을 하라하신다. 내가 주님을 초청하면 어떻게 할까? 손님을 초청하면 그가 주인공이라 그를 기쁘게 할 것이다. 음식대접이 중요하다. 음식을 나누고 대화하며 교제한다. 내가 교인 집을 심방하면 그들은 음식 접대를 위하여 준비를 한다. 손님 대접은 우리 문화에서 중요하다. 이전 가난한 때에 식이상이라는 말이 있을 정도였다. 먹으면서 교제하는 것이 자연스런 일이다. 제자들이 음식 사러 간 사이 예수님은 사마리아 우물 가에 앉아 쉬고 있었다. 어느 여인이 물을 길러 왔기에 주께서 그에게 물을 좀 달라 하시며 대화를 시작하셨다. 제자들이 돌아와 음식을 잡수시라 하니 “나는 이미 먹었다. 내게는 먹을 음식이 따로 있다” 하신다. 사마리아 여인이 그와의 대화를 통하여 그를 그리스도로 인정하고 고백하며 동리에 들어가 그를 소개하고 동민들이 몰려와 그를 초청하고 그는 그곳에 며칠을 지나셨다. 주님은 아버지의 뜻을 행하는 것이 그의 양식이라 하신다. 주님이 마리아와 대화한 것은 주께 음식이 되었다. 주의 말씀을 듣는 것은 나를 살리는 양식이지만 주께도 만족한 음식이 된다. 말씀을 전하는 것이 그가 오신 목적이라 영적인 만족이 된다. 내가 심방하여 그 집에 말씀을 전하면 주인이 만족하는 것을 보면 나는 음식을 먹지 않아도 만족하였다. 강단에서 하루 세번 설교하여도 피곤을 모르고 속에서 기쁨과 힘이 올라오는 것을 느끼는 것은 그만큼 내게도 음식이 제공되었다는 증거다. 주님을 접대하는 제일 좋은 길은 그의 말씀을 듣고 반응하며 따르는 것이다.마리아가 그것을 선택하였다. 우리가 주님을 영접한다. 영접은 그를 앉아 쉬게 하심이 아니라 내가 그를 주로 모시고 그의 말씀을 듣고 따르며 순종하는 것이다. 내가 주인으로 사는 것이 아니라 주님을 내 삶의 주인으로 모시고 그가 나를 인도하며 다스리도록 자리를 내어 드리는 일이다. 그것이 나와 그의 기쁨이다. 내가 더욱 주님과 친근하고 그의 말씀과 뜻을 알고 따르기를 소망한다. It was in order to have close fellowship with Him and to serve Him. Martha was busy in the kitchen preparing food for the guest, while Mary sat before Jesus. Martha said, “Teacher, tell Mary to help me.” The Lord answered her, “You are worried and troubled about many things, but only a few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen the better part, and it will not be taken away from her.” The Lord was teaching that one thing is most important. If I invite the Lord, what should I do? When we invite a guest, that person becomes the center of attention, and we try to please them. Serving food is important. We share food, talk together, and enjoy fellowship. When I visit church members’ homes, they prepare food in order to welcome me. Hospitality is very important in our culture. In earlier days of poverty, there was even a saying that life was centered around the dining table. Sharing food while fellowshipping together is a natural thing. While the disciples had gone to buy food, Jesus was sitting and resting by a well in Samaria. A woman came to draw water, and the Lord began a conversation with her by asking for a drink. When the disciples returned, they urged Him to eat. But He said, “I have already eaten. I have food that you do not know about.” Through her conversation with Him, the Samaritan woman recognized Him as the Christ and confessed Him. She went into the town, introduced Him to the people, and the townspeople came to Him, invited Him, and He stayed there for several days. The Lord said that doing the will of the Father is His food. His conversation with Mary became food for Him. Listening to the Lord’s word is food that gives us life, but it also becomes satisfying food for Him. Proclaiming the Word was the purpose for which He came, and it brings spiritual satisfaction. When I visit a home and share God’s Word, seeing the joy and satisfaction of the host makes me satisfied even without eating food. Even when I preach three times in one day from the pulpit, I do not feel tired; instead, I feel joy and strength rising from within. This is evidence that food has been provided for my soul as well. The best way to serve the Lord is to listen to His Word, respond to it, and follow it. Mary chose that way. We receive the Lord. Receiving Him does not simply mean letting Him sit and rest. It means welcoming Him as the Lord of my life—listening to His Word, following Him, and obeying Him. It means that I no longer live as the master of my own life, but welcome the Lord as the Master, giving Him the place to lead and rule over me. That is the joy both for Him and for me. I desire to grow closer to the Lord and to know and follow His Word and His will more deeply.
