나의 요새 My Fortress

나의 요새 My Fortress 인류 역사는 힘의 대결과 전쟁으로 이어진다. 공격하고 정복하는 것 못지 않게 적의 공격을 받을 때 방어하는 것이 필요하다. 요즘은 공중에 날아오는 첨단 무기를 막기 위하여 방공망 아이언 돔을 만들어 방어하고 있다. 유럽의 옛 도시를 찾으면 높은 산 꼭대기를 요새로 만들어 적의 침공을 저지, 방어하고 또 그곳에서 적을 향해 대포나 돌을 날려 공격한다. 요새가 든든하면 백성은 안전하게 살 수 있다. 다윗은 어린 때부터 전쟁을 많이 하였다. 양을 치며 사자나 곰을 자기 힘으로 막아 내었다. 블레셋과 전쟁할 때 형들을 면화하며 적장이 모욕하는 말을 들으며 분개하여 그와 싸우기로 하다. 칼과 창으로 다가오는 적장을 그는 하나님의 이름으로 물매 돌로 그를 죽이고 나라를 구하였다. 하나님의 이름이 그의 요새였다. 시편 59편에서 그는 하나님이 요새요 힘이시기에 그를 찬양한다. 원수는 거짓과 저주로 또 행동으로 그를 위협하지만 그는 요새인 하나님을 향한다. 그들을 죽이지 마소서. 원수가 죽고 없어지면 마음이 해이하고 안일해 진다. 중요한 것은 원수와의 긴장관계에서 하나님이 요새임을 계속 인정하고 나타내기를 원한다. 원수가 보응 받는 것을 보게 하되 그들이 흩어지고 힘이 약화되며 조금씩 소멸되게 하는 것이다. 그들 입의 저주와 거짓은 아무런 효험이 없고 그들 스스로 굶주리나 먹을 것을 얻지 못하는 개들과 같이 밤에도 자지 못하고 유리하게 하는 것이다. 다윗은 하나님이라는 요새에서 안전하게 지키심을 받는 것을 온 세상이 알고 하나님을 높이게 하고 자신도 하나님의 인자하심을 찬송하고 아침마다 새롭게 하루를 시작하였다. 나는 어떠한가? 나이 80이 넘으면 모두가 같은 형편이라 하지만 무엇이 나를 지키고 있나? 음식과 운동, 약을 의지하지만 많은 한계를 느낀다. 능력의 하나님을 요새로 삼는다면 질병과 고난 시련이나 어떤 형편에서도 다윗처럼 안정된 마음으로 기뻐하며 감사하리라. 며칠 전 사업을 하는 아들 같은 친구를 오랜만에 만났는데 이전과 달리 얼굴과 삶이 매우 건강하고 활력이 있었다. 하나님을 바라보며 모든 걱정을 내리고 평안과 기쁨으로 산다고 한다. 하나님을 요새로 삼은 삶이 어떠한가 보여 준다. 나의 힘이 되신 여호와여 내가 주를 사랑하나이다. 을 높이게 하고 자신도 하나님의 인자하심을 찬송하고 아침마다 새롭게 하루를 시작하였다. 나는 어떠한가? 나이 80이 넘으면 모두가 같은 형편이라 하지만 무엇이 나를 지키고 있나? 음식과 운동, 약을 의지하지만 많은 한계를 느낀다. 능력의 하나님을 요새로 삼는다면 질병과 고난 시련이나 어떤 형편에서도 다윗처럼 안정된 마음으로 기뻐하며 감사하리라. 며칠 전 사업을 하는 아들 같은 친구를 오랜만에 만났는데 이전과 달리 얼굴과 삶이 매우 건강하고 활력이 있었다. 하나님을 바라보며 모든 걱정을 내리고 평안과 기쁨으로 산다고 한다. 하나님을 요새로 삼은 삶이 어떠한가 보여 준다. 나의 힘이 되신 여호와여 내가 주를 사랑하나이다. My Fortress Human history has been marked by struggles for power and by wars. Just as important as attacking and conquering is the need to defend oneself against an enemy’s assault. Today, advanced defense systems like the Iron Dome are used to intercept weapons flying through the air. In old European cities, fortresses were often built on high mountaintops to block and defend against invasions, and from there, cannons or stones were launched toward the enemy. When a fortress is strong, the people can live in safety. David fought many battles from a young age. While tending sheep, he defended them from lions and bears with his own strength. During the war against the Philistines, he visited his brothers and became indignant upon hearing the enemy commander’s mocking words, deciding to fight him. Though the enemy approached with sword and spear, David went against him in the name of God and killed him with a sling stone, saving the nation. The name of God was his fortress. In Psalm 59, he praises God as his fortress and strength. Though enemies threaten him with lies, curses, and actions, he turns to God, his fortress. He prays not that they be killed outright, for if the enemy disappears, the heart may grow lax and complacent. What matters is to continue recognizing and demonstrating that God is his fortress amid the tension with his enemies. He asks that the enemies receive their due, but in a way that they are scattered, weakened, and gradually fade away. Their curses and lies lose all effect, and they become like dogs wandering at night, unable to find food, restless and unsatisfied. David desires that the whole world would know that he is safely protected in God, his fortress, and that God would be exalted. He himself praises God’s lovingkindness and begins each day anew in the morning. What about me? People say that after the age of eighty, everyone is in a similar condition, but what truly protects me? I rely on food, exercise, and medicine, yet I feel their many limitations. If I make the mighty God my fortress, then even in sickness, hardship, or trials, I too can rejoice with a steady heart and give thanks like David. A few days ago, I met a younger friend—like a son—who runs a business. After a long time, I noticed that his face and life were much healthier and full of vitality than before. He said he looks to God, lays down all his worries, and lives with peace and joy. His life shows what it means to make God one’s fortress. “O Lord, my strength, I love You.”
